Shooting Victim Scalise Was Slandered by Obama Admin

Keeping it classy.

Democrat figureheads may be quick to offer sympathy after the shooting of House Republican Whip Steve Scalise, but let’s not forget just how viciously the administration of President Barack Obama tried to link him with former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke.

“You’ll recall that one Republican congressman told a reporter that he was ‘David Duke without the baggage,’” then-White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters in September 2015, according to CNN, referring to Scalise.

Of course, a flak like Earnest couldn’t let the moment go without smearing then-GOP primary candidate Donald Trump at the same time.

“Mr. Trump isn’t the first Republican politician to countenance these kinds of views in order to win votes,” Earnest said.

Classy move, Mr. Earnest.

Earnest was referring to an incident 20 years ago, in which Scalise reportedly referred to himself as “like David Duke without the baggage,” according to a reporter writing for The Advocate.

Keep in mind that the phrase is not quoted, and is seemingly paraphrased by the reporter, yet Earnest attributes it directly to Scalise.

Breitbart reports that back in 2002, Scalise did give a speech for the European-American Unity and Rights Organization, for which he has apologized, calling it “a mistake I regret” according to NPR.

Democrats were still using the “Republicans appeal to conservative extremists” line in August of last year, when the presidential campaign was raging.

“I think what is clear is that there has been a willingness on the part of Republicans in Congress to appeal to extremists in this country to try to build political support for their party,” Earnest said according to The American Presidency Project.

It’s hard not to look at what Earnest said and look at now and not be a little angry — at the shooting itself, and at the left’s unhinged reaction to it. What we saw with the shooting of Scalise was a liberal radical take what he thought was justice into his own hands.
