It’s clear what Bill de Blasio’s really are.
Everyone’s favorite bleeding heart liberal, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, found it “distressing” that illegal immigrants who aren’t criminals were being arrested, The Daily Caller reports.
As The Daily Caller explained, being in the country illegally — known as “unlawful presence” — is a civil, rather than a criminal, offense. “Illegal entry” is a crime, but may illegal immigrants entered the country legally, for example on a visa, but remained past their welcome and thus became “unlawfully present.”
ICE has arrested 156 illegal immigrants in New York City so far this year, according to The Daily Caller, and that amount was reportedly better than double the amount for the same period in 2016.
Mayor de Blasio claimed to be appalled in a recent radio interview.
De Blasio told WNYC that “it’s very distressing … to hear that ICE is picking up people who are law abiding and contributing to the community,” according to The Daily Caller.
Law abiding? OK, Bill.
“That’s only going to undermine the relationship between our immigrants and our police and our government in general,” de Blasio reportedly said. “That’s not going to make anyone safe.”
Now, of course we know what he actually means. He means that it’s “distressing” that illegal immigrants can get arrested even though they’re obeying all the laws de Blasio finds convenient.
Hey, it’s not like they murdered anyone, or hacked the Democrat National Committee email system, or stored classified information on an unsecure system or something. Why not just leave them alone? Why not, in fact, send them voter registration cards?
We certainly understand how he could find the enforcement of immigration law that results in deportation “distressing.” I mean, the Democrat Party just lost 156 votes — and who knows how many more President Donald Trump will deport before the next election?
If I were a Democrat, I’d probably be distressed, too.
